I’m having trust issues with my navigation!

omg…..  What an adventure!

We left the Bay Area of California for the second leg of our business/pleasure road trip.

Heavy weather was expected so we threw together a game plan and figured that we would alter the highways on an as needed basis.  The Bay Area was getting torrential rain and the Sierras were expecting their fair share of snow, so we decided to get a jump on things and head out a bit early.

I can confirm that I’m having trust issues with my navigation!  I am not a fan of the hopeless feeling of being lost.  I don’t find it adventurous or “part of the fun.”  I have flashes of those mock-horror stories on National Geographic or that I’m about to take a page out of a Bear Grylls survival story.

On the road in the Bay Area of California

So excited to be on a getaway weekend!

I’ve been having such a great time unwinding and catching up on some much-needed R&R.

I work on a variety of projects and typically have a crazy schedule.  It’s so refreshing to have my biggest decision be which cute restaurant to savor a leisurely breakfast in.

It’s been sunny and brisk.  I’m almost too excited to sit still.  As much as I want to rest, I also want to do as much as I can.  I should nap….No I should check out the Jacuzzi.”  “I should read in bed…No I should stroll around the Marina and take some photos.”  It’s a happy internal struggle.  I’ve had a good amount of peace and quite and I also let my hair down & went to a fab party last night.

For whatever reason I’ve been wide awake since 6am.  The storm that has had so much hype has finally arrived and it’s absolutely pouring right now!  So beautiful and keeps the landscape such a lushes green.

I should be in store for a bit more exploring in the San Francisco area and then off to my next leg of the road trip.

There’s nothing like re-energizing your spirit!

The Guilty Pleasures of Freelance Photographer Ben Crawford

Photography is such a window into the world.  It’s an art form that captures moments and emotions.  I have met an incredible photographer, Ben Crawford.  He travels the world capturing images that tell a story.  His latest compilation is a selection of international farmer’s markets.  I don’t know about you, but I’d hop on a plane just to nab one of those chocolate croissants!  Have a peek at my very first guest contributor’s work…

Some of my guiltiest pleasures while travelling have been at the local markets I’ve stumbled upon. And as a photographer it’s a happy relationship because some of the most interesting images can be captured at a marketplace too. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many places and I have visited many markets. There are still so many more countries and markets I want to see, but here are three of my favourite ones so far.

Las Ramblas Market, Barcelona

Las Ramblas, often very crowded in summer, is a pedestrian street in central Barcelona.  It’s filled with performers, restaurants, bars and artists selling their wares.  About half way along, tucked off to the side, is one of the most amazing markets I have ever been too.  Fruit and vegetables are stacked to the ceiling, local butchers carve prosciutto while you wait and fishmongers sell their daily catch.  Your senses (and camera) will struggle to decide which stall to go to next!  Open 8am – 8pm Monday to Saturday.
