Photography is such a window into the world. It’s an art form that captures moments and emotions. I have met an incredible photographer, Ben Crawford. He travels the world capturing images that tell a story. His latest compilation is a selection of international farmer’s markets. Some of my guiltiest pleasures while travelling have been at the local markets I’ve stumbled upon. And as a photographer it’s a happy relationship because some of the most interesting images can be captured at a marketplace too. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many places and I have visited many markets. There are still so many more countries and markets I want to see, but here are three of my favourite ones so far.
Las Ramblas Market, Barcelona
Las Ramblas, often very crowded in summer, is a pedestrian street in central Barcelona. It’s filled with performers, restaurants, bars and artists selling their wares. About half way along, tucked off to the side, is one of the most amazing markets I have ever been too. Fruit and vegetables are stacked to the ceiling, local butchers carve prosciutto while you wait and fishmongers sell their daily catch. Your senses (and camera) will struggle to decide which stall to go to next! Open 8am – 8pm Monday to Saturday.
